Canal Parade
The most famous event at Pride in Amsterdam is the Canal Parade: a string of gaudily decorated boats sailing on the Prinsengracht canal and part of the Amstel. The parade is held on the first Saturday in August and draws countless visitors every year. Thousands of people stand along the canals to see the parade and celebrate equal rights for all. It is Holland’s way of showing that it welcomes and accepts of people of all sexual orientations, including gays, lesbians, and transgenders. Tip: if you want to experience the parade, be there early to find a good place along the canal so you will have a good view.
